A grand opening of the project in Japan took place in June 2017 at the largest concert hall – Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. The spectators were presented with the legendary “Giselle” of the Bolshoi Theatre company, and a photo exhibition marking the 60 year anniversary of the first Bolshoi Theatre tours in Japan.
To mark the occasion, deputy chairperson of the Russian Government Olga Gologets and the prime minister of Japan Shinzo Abe took part in the opening ceremony.
On December 10, 2017, the closing ceremony of the «Russian Seasons» project in Japan took place at the Suntory Hall in Tokyo. As part of the ceremony, there was staged a concert of the State Academic Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev, with the participation of a celebrated pianist, Denis Matsuev.
In 2017, over 20 institutions of culture took part in the Festival, while the audience coverage in Japan exceeded 40 cities.
